Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian fishery products, particularly tuna and octopus, recorded prospective transactions of Rp522 billion (around US$29.21 million) at the Conxemar 2026 international exhibition in Vigo, Spain, according to the Indonesian Trade Promotion Center (ITPC) in Barcelona.

ITPC Barcelona Head Sri Haryanti said Indonesia's participation served as a strategic platform to showcase national fishery products and expand trade networks across international markets.

"The Rp522 billion figure highlights the potential of Indonesian fishery products to reach broader markets. Interest from prospective buyers across various regions is essential to strengthening promotional efforts and expanding market access for national fishery products," Haryanti said in a statement on Monday.

The Indonesian Pavilion featured five seafood suppliers presenting frozen fishery items, including tuna, mackerel, swordfish, skipjack tuna, cuttlefish, squid, mahi-mahi, red snapper, octopus, and canned crab meat.

ITPC Barcelona plans to follow up with prospective business partners by facilitating communication and exploring joint trade opportunities with Indonesian exporters.

Haryanti said the initiative aims to convert business inquiries generated during the exhibition into long-term commercial contracts.

To maximize European market opportunities, she urged exporters to ensure strict compliance with European Union regulations, particularly health standards, food safety protocols, certifications, and production facility approvals.

Indonesia's marine and fisheries export performance maintains a positive trajectory, reaching US$6.27 billion in 2025, a 5.2 percent increase from the previous year.

Market potential for Indonesian marine products is further underscored by trade with Spain, which totaled US$1.84 billion between January and August 2026.

During that eight-month period, Indonesian exports to Spain reached US$1.19 billion, while imports from Spain totaled US$651.8 million.

In 2025, total bilateral trade reached US$2.63 billion, comprising US$1.80 billion in exports and US $827.1 million in imports.

Indonesia's primary non-oil and gas exports to Spain in 2025 included palm oil, cocoa paste, processed fish, processed coffee, and coconut oil, while imports from Spain consisted of olive oil, frozen fish, vegetable extracts, frozen meat, and frozen pork.
