EU'S SOLANA WILL LEAD EU DELEGATION TO ASEAN REGIONAL FORUM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- European Union (EU) High Representative
for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP), Javier Solana, will lead the
EU delegation to the Asean Post-Ministerial Conference with the EU and the 16th
Asean Regional Forum (ARF) in Phuket, Thailand on Wednesday and Thursday.

The ARF and related meetings will provide an opportunity to discuss regional
and international issues, EU-Asean relations and regional integration in
Southeast Asia, the Council of the European Union said in a statement to Bernama
from Brussels Tuesday.

Strategies for tackling shared challenges, such as counter-terrorism,
maritime security, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, disaster
relief and climate change, will also be on the agenda, it said.

On Wednesday, Solana will participate in the Asean Post Ministerial
Conference with the EU and on Thursday, he will take part in several sessions of
the ARF Ministerial Meeting.

Solana will also have bilateral meetings with the Foreign Ministers of
Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand, among others.
