Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Remains Among Asia's Top 25 Universities, Achieves Perfect Scores In Three Indicators

JOHOR BAHRU (Johor, Malaysia), Nov 4 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has maintained its 25th position in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2027, with its overall score rising to 92.4.

In a statement, UTM said it achieved perfect scores of 100 in three indicators – international students, inbound exchange students and outbound exchange students – while recording improvements in nine of the 11 indicators assessed.

The university also scored above 97 in four other indicators, namely international research network (99.8), staff with PhD (99.1), academic reputation (98.3) and employer reputation (97.1).

UTM Vice-Chancellor Prof Ts Dr Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim said the achievement reflected the university's steady progress and continued growth in an increasingly competitive higher education landscape.

He attributed the success to the collective commitment and unwavering support of UTM staff, students, alumni and strategic partners.

“As an engineering- and technology-focused university, our goal is to turn research findings into sustainable solutions that benefit industries and improve people's well-being,” he said.

The statement said UTM had also strengthened its reputation among academics and employers worldwide, with its academic reputation score increasing from 97.4 to 98.3 and its employer reputation score reaching 97.1.

Together, these two indicators account for half of the overall QS Asia ranking assessment.

In research, the university recorded improvements in publication productivity and research impact, with its papers per faculty score rising from 69.9 to 75.6 and citations per paper score increasing from 60.3 to 64.2.

The university scored 99.8 for its international research network and 85.7 for its faculty-student ratio, while its international faculty score saw the biggest improvement among all indicators, jumping from 37.0 to 61.8.

Overall, these achievements bring added value to students, strategic partners and society, it said.

“UTM's position among Asia's top 25 universities is supported by its strong performance in international student mobility, giving students opportunities to earn globally recognised qualifications and gain valuable international learning experience.

“UTM's research continues to advance fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing and hydrogen energy, with the potential to support cleaner energy, smarter industries and a better quality of life,” the statement said.

Moving forward, UTM will seek to build on its achievements through its UTM ASCEND 2030 strategy, focusing on further improvements across all ranking indicators.
