King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Records 55% Growth in Bird Species, Hosts 60% of Saudi Arabia’s Recorded Species

Sakaka, November 04, 2026, SPA -- The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority has recorded significant growth in biodiversity and wildlife within the reserve, with the number of recorded bird species increasing by more than 55%. The increase reflects progress in efforts to protect the natural environment and enhance biodiversity.
The authority said the number of bird species recorded in the reserve had increased from 190 to 296, accounting for approximately 60% of all bird species recorded in Saudi Arabia. This reinforces the reserve's status as an area of environmental significance and biodiversity within Saudi Arabia.
This growth builds on the authority's ongoing efforts to protect and develop natural habitats and strengthen wildlife stability. These efforts have also contributed to documenting the presence of several important and endangered bird species, most notably the griffon vulture, lappet-faced vulture, sooty falcon, and Egyptian vulture.
