Japan to host APEC summit in Yokohama on Nov. 13, 14 next year+
TOKYO, July 21 Kyodo -
Japan will host an Asia-Pacific summit meeting on Nov. 13 and 14 next year in
Yokohama, the government said Tuesday, publicizing a specific schedule for a
series of events under its upcoming presidency of the regional forum.
The summit will follow a ministerial meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic
Cooperation forum slated to be held in the city on Nov. 10 and 11, said the
Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
The announcement came as the APEC trade ministers gather for their two-day
meeting starting Tuesday in Singapore, the current chair of the 21-member body.
The series of events under Japan's presidency will start with an APEC symposium
in Tokyo on Dec. 9 and 10 this year, the ministry said.
Following some senior official-level sessions, trade ministers are to meet in
Sapporo, Hokkaido, on June 5 and 6 next year while energy ministers are
expected to gather sometime in the same month in Fukui Prefecture. Ministers in
charge of tourism are to meet in Nara Prefecture on September 22 and 23, 2010.
The government has said Japan will host an agricultural ministers meeting for
the first time in APEC's 20-year history. It is scheduled for Oct. 16 and 17
next year in Niigata Prefecture, one of the country's largest production
centers of rice.
Finance ministers are to hold a one-day session on Nov. 6 in Kyoto.
