Seoul stocks open stronger on steelmaker gains

SEOUL, July 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a strong start
Wednesday, underpinned by steelmaker gains, analysts said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) climbed 7.31 points, or
0.49 percent, to 1,496.3 in the first 15 minutes of trading
Massive foreign buying buoyed steelmakers, including POSCO, on rebounding steel
output and rising prices of steel products.
The local currency was trading at 1,251.3 won versus the U.S. dollar, down 2.8
won from Tuesday's close.
