NO DNA MATCH IN BLASTS
By Mohd Nasir Yusoff
JAKARTA, July 22 (Bernama) – The DNA samples taken from the families of two
suspected suicide bombers do not match the remains found at the scenes of the
deadly blasts at JW Marriot and Ritz Carlton here last Friday.
Indonesian police public relations chief Insp-Gen Nanan Sukarna said the DNA
of the families of the two suspects, Nur Hasbi alias Nur Said and Ibrahim, and
the remains found at the scenes were tested negative.
"Nur Hasbi's family members were brought here yesterday while Ibrahim's
family members were also tested. The results were negative," he told a news
conference here Wednesday.
The results were confirmed by Indonesian police Disaster Victims
Identification chief Brig-Jen Edi Suparwoko.
"We had carried out thorough tests on the DNA of the two families but until
today we had found no match," he said.
The Indonesian police today issued photofits said to be that of the two
suicide bombers by referring to them as that of the victims found at the scenes.
One is that of a male of between 20 and 40 whose severed head was said to
have been found at Ritz Carlton while another is that of a male aged between 16
and 17 whose severed head was said to have been found at JW Marriot.
The photofits are different from the pictures of Nur Hasbi or Ibrahim
published by the media.
Nanan said the DNA samples taken from the severed head found at JW Marriot
matched a male guest of room 1808 of the hotel
The blasts at the JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels in central Jakarta
killed nine people, including two unidentified suicide bombers, and injured 50
others.
