Hyundai, Kia to make 4.1 tln won in green investments

SEOUL, July 22 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Motor Co. and its affiliate Kia Motors Corp. said Wednesday they plan to invest a total of 4.1 trillion won (US$3.28 billion) by 2013 to develop fuel-efficient vehicles and reduce carbon emissions at their plants.

Under the plan, Hyundai and Kia will spend 2.2 trillion won to develop hybrid and
hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Another 1.4 trillion won will go to developing
fuel-saving engines, the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group said in a statement.
Meanwhile, 500 billion won will be spent to cut greenhouse gas emissions from
their plants, according to the statement.
Hyundai and Kia control more than 80 percent of the South Korean vehicle market.
