THINKING CULTURE FOUNDATION OF A PROGRESSIVE SOCIETY - DPM
KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin urged Malaysians to widen their appreciation of a thinking culture and make it a way life as a progressive society.
He said this culture would be the determining factor in bringing Malaysians
to a new level of excellence.
He also reminded the people to discard the lethargy syndrome, laziness and
negative thinking.
"If we are lethargic and mentally weak, in the end we will become a soulless
society.
"We must generate a society that has a rich a thinking culture with
propensity to engage in research, analysis, publish works of high quality, loves
knowledge and scholarly works and hold scholars in high esteem," he said at a
Yayasan Nurul Yaqeen dinner here tonight. Muhyiddin is the chairman of the
foundation.
At the same time, Muhyiddin also stressed on the need for society to build
the younger generation to uphold values that were sacred including being of
noble character and able to withstand challenges that may come in the way.
"It is important we a build a younger generation of quality, one that does
not succumb easily to social ills," he said, adding that religion played an
important part in this so that youths do not become hooked on materialism.
With the right values, he said, younger Malaysians would not go the way of
the West which placed more importance on secularistic principles that had only
caused a breakdown in their socities.
