Cheong Wa Dae to help promote electric vehicles through test use
SEOUL, July 23 (Yonhap) -- The presidential office Cheong Wa Dae will test run three locally developed electric cars for one year to help promote the new, energy-efficient vehicles and prepare them for market introduction in the near future.
South Korea has yet to allow electric vehicles for road use. The cars to be
tested by the presidential office will be run on a temporary license for the next
12 months, Cheong Wa Dae said in a press release.
The vehicles will be used for short-distance errands, and operational data will
be provided to their local developer CT&T, it said.
The vehicles run strictly on electricity, and a four-hour recharge gives them
enough power to cover about 100 kilometers.
Each vehicle requires about 20 recharges a month on average, costing about 10,000
won (US$8). The cars have a maximum speed of approximately 60 kilometers per
hour.
"Electric vehicles are an environmentally-friendly and non-polluting means of
travel that can help fight pollution and global warming," the press release said.
