Samsung Engineering Q2 net rises 43 pct

By Nam Kwang-sik
SEOUL, July 23 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Engineering Co., South Korea's largest plant
builder, said Thursday that its second-quarter net income rose 43 percent from a
year ago.
Net profit came to 73.1 billion won (US$58.4 million) in the April-June period,
compared with 51 billion won a year earlier, Samsung Engineering said in a
regulatory filing.
Sales rose 31 percent to 985.5 billion won, and operating profit rose 60.3
percent on-year to 71 billion won.
"Orders for petrochemical plants that it won one or two years ago contributed to
the strong performance in the second quarter," Samsung Engineering said.
Despite the good performance, Samsung Engineering shares fell 1.31 percent to
82,900 won as of 11:36 a.m. on the Seoul bourse.
