Daewoo International Q2 net rises 9.6 pct

SEOUL, July 23 (Yonhap) -- Daewoo International Corp., South Korea's
second-largest trading company, said Thursday that its second-quarter earnings
rose 9.6 percent from a year earlier on increased profits from steel and
chemicals trading.
Net profit reached 33 billion won (US$26.4 million) in the April-June period,
compared with 30 billion won a year ago, Daewoo International said in a
regulatory filing.
Revenue, however, lost 5.5 percent on-year to 259.6 billion won in the second
quarter, while operating profit rose 10.4 percent to 50.7 billion won.
Shares of Daewoo International rose 1.90 percent to 26,800 won as of 1:32 p.m. on
the Seoul bourse.
