GOVT DRAWING UP ENERGY GUIDELINES FOR INDUSTRIES
PETALING JAYA (Malaysia), July 23 (Bernama) -- The government is making
efforts to draw up guidelines for the industrial sector to promote the efficient
use of energy resources.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister, Chin Fah Kui, said the
guidelines were to enable industries to effectively manage their commonly-used
equipment such as fans, chillers, motors, pumps, air-compressors and
transformers.
"We hope the guidelines will encourage industries to practise energy
efficiency to improve industrial processes and use energy-efficient equipment
more widely," he said at the presentation of prizes to winners of Schneider
Electric's 'Green The World' University Challenge 2009 here Thursday.
The text of his speech was read by the ministry's senior under-secretary for
green technology, Mohd Rosli Abdullah.
Chin said the government was embarking on energy conservation in the
building sector, in particular government offices.
"All government agencies are currently working towards reducing energy
consumption.
"The ministry's building has set the benchmark for more buildings to be
built with energy-efficiency and renewable-energy features integrated in the
building design.
"We hope our initiatives to incorporate these features in newer buildings
will encourage the private sector to follow," he said.
Meanwhile, Mohd Rosli said Prime Minister Najib Razak would introduce the
National Green Technology Policy tomorrow.
"Energy management is one of the critical challenges faced by the country
currently in view of the increasing demand for energy, depleting natural energy
resources and volatile energy prices," he said.
Schneider Electric's inter-university competition requires participants to
develop energy-efficient solutions using engineering concepts.

operations in more than 100 countries.
