MALAYSIA GIVING HIGHEST PRIORITY TO ROAD SAFETY
KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- The government is going all out to ensure
roads in the country are as safe as possible in view of the fact that the total
number vehicles have reached almost 18 million units.
Deputy Transport Minister Abdul Rahim Bakri said road safety also
needed the cooperation of all parties and road users themselves.
"Priority is being given to enforcement, engineering aspects as well as
roadworthiness of vehicles," he said when interviewed on Bernama's Radio24
station here Thursday.
He also said another area that added attention needed to be paid was driver
education or advocacy to produce highly disciplined and competent drivers in the
country.
This was something that needed to begin at the school level so that when
school leavers became adults and motorists, they were well equipped to be
quality road users, he added.
