Interior Affairs Minister visits southeast interior affairs department

Almaty, July 24, 2009 (Khabar) - The minister for interior affairs has set tasks for the staff of transport police of the southeast interior affairs department. They include supplying the legal order, increasing people’s confidence in law enforcement officials, and raising the crime detection rate especially in the struggle against drug trafficking. Serik Baimaganbetov met with the leadership and staff of this subdivision. 6 airports of the country and the entire southeast segment of the railway of almost 5 thousand kilometres of length in the territories of the largest and most densely populated regions such as Southern Kazakhstan, Zhambyl and Eastern Kazakhstan are being guarded by officials of this department.

Serik Baimaganbetov, Minister for Interior Affairs of RK:
- You serve those railway stations which are considered to be the gateway to Kazakhstan. And therefore, the fight against drug trafficking and crime is believed to be your main function. About 40 billion tenge was allocated by the government for the period of 3 years. The basic amount of this money will be used for reinforcing the southern borderline. This will influence the situation conductive to crime in the country considerably.

According to the minister, the number of crimes in the country has reduced by 12%. The head of state defined the core directions of activity including the protection of public order, the fight against organized crime, drug dealing and corruption. The minister also noted that it is necessary to lay a special stress on district subdivisions and officials who work with the population on an everyday basis. Serik Baimaganbetov noted that the image of the whole system and the formation of people’s confidence depend on the way they work and refers to the police officials’ professional ethics.
