“Roaming complaints office” campaign
Astana, July 24, 2009 (Khabar) - The second stage of the “Roaming complaints office” campaign has taken place on the motorway linking Astana, Arshaly and Oskarovka. Traffic police officials and representatives of the Nur Otan People’s Democratic Party met with villagers in the Akmola and Karaganda regions to elaborate on the work of the traffic police. Thanks to the new methods of work applied by the police and the toughening of traffic rules, the number traffic accidents saw an 11% decrease. 450 out of over 500 complaints received at the Roaming complaints office were considered and solved immediately.
Darkhanbek Zhandildin, central public complaints department, Nur Otan People’s Democratic Party:
- There are some people who cannot get to the capital city and the Party’s central office of traffic police. This time, we decided to visit people in order to become closer to the people. We can solve a number of issues immediately while some of them require a more detailed consideration, which is why we will work on them later.
As part of the second stage of the nationwide campaign, the traffic police chief, Kairat Tynybekov met with villagers of the Akmola and Karaganda regions to become acquainted with their problems. The residents asked to make a furcation in the district, to install some more road signs, and to assign a patrol unit to convoy children, as Arshaly villagers are worried with the traffic in their populated area. Last year, there were 14 traffic accidents killing 6 people.
Oskarovka villagers asked traffic policemen almost the same questions concerning the quality of roads, installations of traffic lights, and the issues of police staff expansion. The villagers were also interested in the fines they would have to pay if they broke some rules. The traffic police chief said all the fines are within the limits of the law. The newly imposed traffic rules help reduce the number of accidents and casualties accordingly.
Kairat Tynybekov, Traffic Police Committee Chairman, Ministry for Interior Affairs of RK:
- We have registered an 11% reduction in traffic accidents, the mortality rate dropped by 28% and the amount of injured people reduced by 12%.
As part of the campaign, the police also held an anonymous survey among local drivers. The results will be used to improve the work of the traffic police committee.
