National Human Rights Commission to be formed in Yemen

SANA'A, July 25 (Saba)-Yemen
and the European Union are currently discussing the formation of a National Human
Rights
Commission in Yemen. Prime Minister Ali Mujawar welcomed the formation of the
commission in the country.
George Asaf, a consultant in the EU, said to the state-run almotamar.net that the
establishment of the Commission comes within the Paris Principles which were
adopted by
the United Nations.
"Members of the commission will include officials, members of civil society
organizations, universities professors and experts in the field of human rights",
Asaf added.
"The commission will oversee the conditions of human rights in the country, help
the concerning authorities to write reports to the UN and spread awareness of the
human
rights among people".
A work-paper about this commission will be presented in a human rights conference
which to be held in Sana'a in October 2009.
"Country National Human Rights Commissions have been set up in a number of Arab and
foreign countries", he pointed out, "It is just formed to help the countries to
deal
with human rights and connect with the UN".
