Four pedestrians killed by collapsing steel frame at construction site
UIJEONGBU, South Korea, July 25 (Yonhap) -- Four pedestrians were killed and 12
injured Saturday when a large steel frame fell off a set of piers and crashed
into a promenade, authorities said.
The incident took place at 7:20 p.m. in the city of Uijeongbu just north of
Seoul. One person remains buried underneath the frame, rescuers said, though his
physical condition could not be immediately identified.
The frame, which appeared to be dozens of meters long, was part of a bridge that
was being built for an 11km-long light rail system. Construction began two years
ago and was scheduled to end in 2011.
