US ENVOY FEELS SAFE IN LAMPUNG

Bandarlampung, INDONESIA, July 25 (ANTARA) - US Ambassador to Indonesia Cameron R Hume said here on Saturday that he felt safe as he believed that the security condition in Lampung Province was conducive.

When attending the opening of the 19th Krakatau Festival in Bandarlampung, the US ambassador said he felt and had no worry because the security personnel had worked hard to maintain peace.

According the ambassador, what mattered was not whether he felt safe or not, but whether everyone felt safe and together protect the safe condition.

He hoped that all parties could help return the safe condition of Indonesia to make it conducive for the investment and tourism sectors.

The US ambassador referred his statement to the bombings of JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels in Jakarta on July 17, which killed nine people and injured 53 others including foreigners among others from Australia, New Zealand and the Netherlands.

Ambassador Cameron Hume and 23 other representatives from 15 countries were present in the Krakatau Festival opening at Way Halim, Bandarlampung.

The visitors included the ambassadors of Germany, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Turkey, Singapore, Greek, Qatar, Seychelles, and Brunei Darussalam.

They arrived in Lampung on Saturday morning and proceeded directly to the venue of the ceremony.

After attending the opening, they visited Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park (TNBBS) at Tambling, West Lampung, to closely see the biological diversity in Lampung's forest.

"Lampung has TNBBS with biological diversity potential which is the largest in the world. We would like to take you there to see the potential and you might help preserve the forest," Lampung Governor Sjachroedin said in his speech.

After visiting the national park, the foreign ambassadors would be invited to a Krakatau Night Welcome party in South Lampung on Saturday evening. And on Sunday morning, they will join a Krakatau tour by using roro ferry. ***
