S. Korea confirms 35 additional type-A flu cases

SEOUL, July 27 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's health authorities said Monday they have
confirmed 35 more cases of influenza A, raising the total number of infections to
1,258.
The new patients include one Army and two Air Force soldiers, the Ministry for
Health, Welfare and Family Affairs said in an e-mailed statement.
The Army soldier was suspected of having been infected through contact with other
confirmed patients in his unit. His infection brought the number of Army flu
patients to 39.
South Korea has been relatively insulated from the global pandemic, which has
claimed hundreds of lives since the disease was first identified in April. Most
of the patients here have been inbound travelers from affected countries.
But fears are growing over the increasing number of local cases through
person-to-person transmission.
As of Monday, 78 people remained in isolation at state-designated hospitals with
413 staying at home for treatment. The other patients have recovered and been
released after being treated with antibiotics. No influenza A-related deaths have
been reported in South Korea.
