HOUSEMAIDS FROM CHINA DEPENDS ON AGREEMENT FROM EVERYONE

TAIPING, July 27 (Bernama) -- The decision whether the Malaysian government
will allow the entry of housemaids from China into the country will depend on
the agreement from everyone who has interests in the matter, said the Minister
of Human Resources, Dr S. Subramaniam.

He said so far the government had not made any decision on the suggestion
made by the Malaysian Association for Foreign Housemaid Agencies (PAPA), adding
that there were quarters that had opposed the suggestion.

"We have not made any decison but there is a possibility that we will open
the door to other countries to supply their nationals as housemaids in this
country," he said at a function here Sunday.

PAPA president Raja Zulkepley Dahalan had said on June 23 that the
move would ease the dependency of Chinese employers in the country on housemaids
from Indonesia and at the same time minimise the problems of abuse against the
housemaids due to the problems of language, culture and religion.
