KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 (Bernama) -- The recent international Incoming Buying
Mission (IBM) organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation
(Matrade) which focused on the local healthcare services, medical and
pharmaceutical products, resulted in RM2.8 million in potential sales.

The buying mission,on July 21-22, was in collaboration with the Ministry of
Health, the Malaysian Tourism Board and the Association of Private Hospitals of
Malaysia (APHM).

In a statement Tuesday, Matrade said the products of interest were namely
medical disposals, surgical gloves, bio hazard waste bags and orthopaedic
implants.

Matrade noted that there was a potential joint-venture collaboration
identified between a Malaysian anti-aging beauty clinic and a polyclinic in
Vietnam.

Apart from clients sourcing for medical related products, the
overseas buyers consisted of health tourism facilitators, keen to meet with
Malaysian hospitals.

Hospital visits were arranged to allow the delegates to experience and
gather first-hand information on services provided as well as the technology and
equipment used to treat patients.

The programme was in conjunction with the APHM International Healthcare
Conference and Exhibition 2009 from July 20-24 which attracted a total of 18
foreign companies from Algeria, Bangladesh and the United States.

A total of 58 Malaysian companies registered with Matrade for the
pre-scheduled meetings arranged during the event.

Some 116 meetings were held between the Malaysian companies and foreign
clients.
