Nearly 200 pieces of antiquity recovered: GAAM says

SANA'A, July 28 (Saba) - About
200 antique pieces have been recovered since the beginning of 2009, General
Organization
for Antiquities and Museums (GAAM) said has said.

A source at the GAAM told the GPC-run almotamar.net that the antiquities have been
held with smugglers in different outlets, trying to smuggle the pieces abroad.
Most of the antiquities were held by the security authorities in the Sana'a
International Airport.
Six suspects, all are Yemenis, are being appeared in courts in connection to
smuggling antiquities, according to the source.
The recovered antiquities included statues, archeries and stone panels and others
back to before and after Islamic period.
On the other hand, the Authority has managed to buy around 300 pieces of antique
from citizens and sent them to the National Museum.
