UGANDA PRESIDENT PRAISES MALAYSIA

By Newmond Tibin

MUNYONYO (Uganda), July 29 (Bernama) -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has described Malaysia as a role model and source of inspiration for the overall development of the African nations through the smart partnership dialogues.

He said that in Malaysia the relationship between the multi-ethnic groups
was good through their involvement in the economy.

"This ideology of smart partnership, based on their experiences and
performances...there are no losers but winners," he told reporters at the
conclusion of the 19th Global Smart Partnership Dialogue here.

A similiar dialogue, the Langkawi International Dialogue (LID), will be held
in Malaysia next year.

"(In) this ideology of smart partnership, based on their experiences and
performances, there are no losers but winners," Museveni said.

He said that according to Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is
leading the Malaysian delegation here, the Malaysian government was now aiming
to make Malaysia a developed and modern country by 2020.

"In fact, Malaysia is already modern among developing nations as it is
today. Therefore, by succeeding, Malaysia is ahead of us.

"So we should emulate Malaysia, as only through this, we can also succeed."
Networking through smart partnership must be enhanced, he said, adding that
Malaysian was a friend of and also an active member in the Non-Aligned
movement.

Museveni said Malaysia had also developed its own level of technology and
owned a number of technologies.

"They also have their own oil company in Petronas. Petronas is exploring in
all parts of the world and is also involved in refinery. That is the role of
Malaysia and they are good example," he said.
