MALAYSIANS MARK KING'S BIRTHDAY IN DUBAI

By Muin Abdul Majid

DUBAI, July 29 (Bernama) -- About 300 Malaysians converged on the Malaysian
consulate here recently, to celebrate the birthday of the Malaysian King Tuanku
Mizan Zainal Abidin.

A similar event was organised at the Malaysian Embassy in Abu Dhabi on June
12.

The Malaysian consul-general in Dubai, Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin,
reminded those present that the monarchic institution was a symbol of unity for
Malaysians.

He also took the opportunity to call on Malaysians in the United Arab
Emirates (UAE) to join the consulate in efforts to promote Malaysia among
Emiratis, as well as companies operating in this Gulf nation.

"We should all be playing our role in helping our nation to face the global
economic crisis," said Mohamad Hasrin.

The event was also attended by Malaysian Ambassador Yahaya Abdul Jabar
and heads of Malaysian agencies based in the UAE.
