MALAYSIAN FOREIGN MINISTER TO CHAIR CMAG MEETING IN LONDON

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman
will head the Malaysian delegation at the two-day 32nd meeting of the
Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) starting Thursday in London.

Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) said in a statement
Wednesday that Anifah would chair the meeting,
in Malaysia's capacity as the Chair of CMAG for the 2007-2009 term, to review
the political situation in the Fiji Islands.

"Fiji is the only country under the consideration of the CMAG, following its
suspension from the councils of the Commonwealth for the second time by the CMAG
on Dec 8, 2006, as a result of the military coup in the same year.

"The CMAG would adopt a Concluding Statement at the end of its meeting on
July 31," Wisma Putra said.

The primary mandate of the CMAG is to deal with serious or persistent
violations of the Harare Principles contained in the 1991 Harare Declaration of
the Commonwealth, such as democracy, human rights and rule of law, independence
of the judiciary, and good governance.

The CMAG membership currently comprises Ghana, Malaysia, Namibia, New
Zealand, Papua New Guinea, St Lucia, Sri Lanka, Uganda and the United Kingdom.
