NATIONAL LAUREATE'S BOOKS AT INTERNATIONAL FAIR IN GERMANY

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- Two books authored by National Laureate
A. Samad Said will be among the 100 book titles from Malaysia at an
international book fair to be held in Frankfurt, Germany, in October.

Malaysia National Institute of Translation (ITNM) managing director Mohd
Khair Ngadiron named the two books, "Cinta Fansuri" and "Balada Hilang Peta"
which had been translated into English and carried the titles 'Fansuri's Love"
and "Ballad of the Lost Map'.

The five-day book fair, to begin on Oct 14, would involve the participation
of 100 countries, he told a press conference at the unveiling of the two
translated books here Thursday.

He said a function would be held at the auditorium of the Dewan Bahasa dan
Pustaka (DBP) or The Institute of Language and Literature, on Aug 8 to honour
Samad for his contributions to the country's literary world.

Meanwhile, Samad, when met by reporters, said he did not expect to be given
such an honour.

"I don't consider myself an icon. It's up to the society. I hope the
appreciation night to honour me would enhance development of literary works in
the country," he added.
