SINGAPORE NAVY OFFICERS VISIT SURABAYA

Surabaya, July 31 (ANTARA) - Six Royal Singapore Navy officers visited the Navy Academy in Bumimoro, Surabaya, East Java, on Thursday.

The head of the academy's information department, Major Jamaluddin, said the RSN officers, led by LCT Lee Joan Him, would be in the city for five days.

"The visit was aimed for an exchange of views and strengthening the relations between the two countries in general, and between the two navies in particular," he said.

They were welcomed on arrival by senior officials of the academy.

While in Surabaya they planned to visit the Eastern Fleet Command headquarters, the Navy Education and Development Command and the naval main base.

"They are impressed by the navy's position and combat equipment," he said.

While in the city they also planned to pass the Surabaya-Madura (Suramadu) bridge which was recently dedicated by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

They would also visit the second Indonesia Safari Park in Pasuruan and a leather handicraft center in Tanggulangin, Sidoarjo.
