Laos hosts 3rd ASEAN-Republic of Korea Eminent Persons Group (EPG)
(KPL) The ministry of foreign affairs in collaboration with Asean Secretariat organized in Vientiane on 29-31 July a 3rd Asean-Republic of Korea Eminent Persons Groups (EPS).
The function with 40 participants from Asean member country and the Republic of Korea was jointly chaired by Mr. Bounkeut Sangsomsak, Deputy Minister of the foreign Affairs and Mr. Han Tae Kyu, head delegation of the Republic of Korea.
The main objective of the meeting was to continue to discuss about the draft report on enhancing the Asean-Republic of Korea comprehensive co-operation partnership towards a strategic partnership.
According to the source from the ministry of foreign affairs, the draft report will address plans for the creation of the Asean community by 2015, the Asean Charter, and the views and opinions of Asean and Korea leaders. After it is completed, the report will be presented to leaders of Asean states and Korea for approval at the 12th Asean-Korea Summit in October this year in Thailand.
Co-operation between Asean and Korea aims to address common challenges and promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region, as well as the world at large. The first and second EPG meetings were held in Malaysia and Korea respectively.
