Mumbai blasts:CBI opposes extension of Memon's interim bail

New Delhi, Aug 3 (PTI) India's premier investigative
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Monday opposed in the
Supreme Court the extension of interim bail granted on medical
ground to 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict Yusuf Razaq Memon
who has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the TADA court.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and
Justices P Sathasivam and A K Ganguly posted the matter for
September 13 asking Memon's counsel to respond to the medical
report which said there was a remission of acute schizophrenia
he was suffering from.

Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium, who referred to
the medical report, said that in view of the fair stage of
remission of schizophrenia, Memon has to go to jail.

Memon's counsel said the response against the report
has been filed and senior advocate Harish Salve would contest
the medical report.

The Bench adjourned the matter by extending the
interim bail till next date of hearing.

The apex court has been extending the interim bail of
Memon every three months on medical ground.

Memon is a relative of Tiger Memon, one of the
mastermind of Mumbai blasts who has been declared as a
proclaimed offender in the case. PTI RKS
