MIDA SYDNEY DIRECTOR PRAISED FOR HIS "STELLAR EFFORTS"

By Neville D'Cruz

MELBOURNE, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- The outgoing president of the
Australia-Malaysia Business Council (AMBC) Chan Wee Keat last night praised the "great work", Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA) Sydney director Jaswant Singh was doing for Malaysia.

Chan said Jaswant's "intelligence, pragmatism, diplomacy and assistance to
the Australian business community seeking to engage with Malaysia have exceeded
our expectations".

MIDA management did keep a promise, made four years ago, when they said they
were sending one of its best officers to us in Australia," Chan said.

"So thank you MIDA and thank you Jaswant for all your help and your stellar
efforts that truly have been above and beyond the call of duty over the past
four years.

"Jaswant has raised the bar and certainly, you have done your country
proud," Chan said.

Jaswant returns to MIDA in Kuala Lumpur at the end of this year.

Chan, an Adelaide-based accountant, was speaking at an AMBC dinner here to
honour the International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed and his
Australian counterpart Simon Crean.

Present were Australian High Commissioner to Malaysia Penny Williams,
Australian transport tycoon Lindsay Fox and Australian and Malaysian industry
leaders.

Williams officiated at the handing over of the AMBC presidency from Chan to
Justin Howden.

Williams told Howden, a business consultant, that he had "big shoes" to
fill.

She said Chan had been an amazing driving force in Australia-Malaysia
bilateral trade with a tremendous ability and capacity for work.
