Unprecedented mushroom yield in Pavlodar region
Pavlodar, August 07, 2009 (Khabar) - There is an unprecedented mushroom yield in the region because of almost every-day rains. This has been caused by an excessively rainy summer which made it possible to gather up to one sack of yellow boletuses, agaric honeys, chanterelles, say residents of the Shalday village.

- It’s a God sent yield for us. The nature must have given this to make us consider that we should cherish and take care of it.
Galina Yurievna is an experienced mushroom picker. When she happens to have some time to spare, she immediately goes to the pine forest together with her daughter and friends. Almost all the mushroom types such as aspen mushrooms, honey agarics, champignons, orange-cup boletuses, saffron milk cups, morels and saddle funguses grow in Shalday. However, milk mushrooms and edible boletuses are considered to be the most highly prized ones. According to Galina, picking mushrooms is a ceremony in its own right. Galina is capable of defining whether a mushroom is edible with her eyes closed. It turns out that it’s a matter of its cup. Incidentally, poisonous mushrooms can do good to people when used properly. There are a number of such recipes in folk medicine. Galina Pankova believes that it is high time a mushroom processing plant constructed in the in Priirtyshie. Meanwhile, only German and French mushrooms are being sold in the city shops.
