BILLBOARD SHOWING NOORDIN'S PICTURE AT C JAVA - W JAVA BORDER
Brebes, Aug 7 (ANTARA) - Brebes police have erected a 4-m x 6-m billboard with fugitive terror suspect Nurdin Muhammad Top's countenance on it at the Central Java - West Java border.
Brebes police's criminal investigation unit spokesman Adjunct Commissioner Sugeng said here on Friday similar billboards would be set up at a number of strategic locations such as malls, hotels, and other public places.
He said the billboards would be erected at those points for the people to get familiar with the face of Noordin M Top, the most wanted terror suspect who has remained at large.
"The billboards have been set up at the boarder between Central Java and West Java in a bid to limit the space in which Noordin Top's can move or operate to carry out other acts of terrorism," Sugeng said.
Besides the billboards, he said, leaflets with Noordin Top's face on them would also be circulated across the region.
According to Sugeng, more than 10,000 leaflets would be spread at market places, malls, bus terminals, train stations, hospitals, and other public places.
The fugitive Malaysian-born extremist was linked to the bombings on the JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels in Jakarta on Friday, July 17, 2009.
"From the modus operandi used in Friday's bombings, it is clear they are linked to Noordin M Top," Ansyaad Mbai, head of the anti-terror desk at the political, legal and security affairs coordinating ministry, said in Jakarta after the bombings.
Although the modus operandi was conventional, it was carried out in a more sophisticated way, namely by infiltrating into the target area, he said.
Although over the past four years there were no terrorist actions occurred in Indonesia, Noordin M Top and his network cells continued to consolidate themselves actively despite the security agencies' successes in tracing and arresting Noordin M Top's men, he said.
