Development of bank erosion

(KPL) Vientiane capital is speeding up the embankment project along the Mekong riverside to protect the bank from erosion in this raining season.
Two embankment projects, under the supervision of the Department of Public Works and Transport, have recently completed in Phanmanh (Sisattanark district) and Thinphia villages (Hardsaifong district).
The embankment project at Phanmanh village, 220 metres long and 42 metres wide, was completed on 28 July after four months of construction. The total investment is 6.88 billion kip.
The facility at Thinphia, 200 metres long and 39 metres wide, started the construction on 9 April and completed on 18 July with an investment of 5.8 billion kip.
Every year, the river banks at these two villages face erosion by the strong current of the Mekong since they are located at the turns of the river. On average, the erosion swallows 5-10 metres of the bank each year.
