AVOID MAJOR ENERGY CRISIS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

BANGI (Malaysia), Aug 11 (Bernama) -- The prime minister's wife, Rosmah
Mansor, Tuesday stressed the importance of developing renewable energy to ensure
the security of future generations.

"It is my sincere hope that we would able to develop green technologies and
ensure energy sustainability," she said when officially opening the Institute of
Energy Policy and Research (IEPRe) here.

Rosmah said that to achieve this, there was a need to invest in renewable
energy, solar, wind, wave and biomass.

"So I hope the HEPRe will be able to deliver research or policy findings to
assist the government and the industry in making decisions.

"It is also my fervent hope that the institute will act as a platform where
energy and climate decisions are made on research and sound analysis," she said.

Rosmah encouraged the government, industry and non-governmental
organisations (NGOs) involved in the field to use the institute as a place where
knowledge and idea are generated and shared.

They should also continually support this endeavour so that the institute
could one day be a regional centre for energy research, data collection, energy
analysis as well as commissioning new research projects.

Rosmah also witnessed the appointment of Dr Rajendra K. Pachauri, Chief
Executive of the Energy and Resource Institute (TERI), India, to the IEPRe
Energy Economics chair.

IEPRe was established in July 2008 as part of University Tenaga Nasional's
(Uniten) strategic transformation, an initiative to spearhead research and
consultancy activities and support the government efforts in energy economic
research.
