Sport Day will be celebrated in Kazakhstan on coming Sunday

Astana, August 12 2009, Khabar – Professionals and fans of sport will celebrate their holiday on sport grounds. Veterans, coaches and sportsmen were congratulated and winners of republican competitions were awarded in the Ministry of Tourism and Sport. Kazakhstan team won 13 medals during 29th summer Olympic Games and soon winter Olympiad will be opened in Vancouver. Kazakhstan has 32 licenses so far and the task is to increase this number at least one and a half. After skier Vladimir Smirnov left sport Kazakh. stan didn’t win medals at winter Olympic Games.

Temirkhan Dosmukhambetov, Minister of Tourism and Sport of RK:
- We didn’t win medals for 12 years that’s why heads of centers on winter sports and directorate of personnel national teams have a task to receive as more licenses as possible.

Results of winter sports and athletics meetings, youth sports games, “Ak Bidai” rural games and sports and athletics meetings of disabled people of Kazakhstan were summed up. 70 applications took part into competition “Best sports organization” and Center of Olympic preparation of Kyzylorda region won. Weight-lifter Ilya Ilyin, champion of Olympiad and judo fighter Zhanar Zhanzunova, prize winner of Championship of world and Asia originated from this Center.

- 30 sportsmen train in our center and 27 of them are youngsters and they won championships of Kazakhstan last year.

Swimming can bring many medals after track and field events. Astana’s specialized school of Olympic reserve also develops water polo, rowing, water jumps. 13-year-old Yekaterina Rudenko, the youngest member of Kazakhstani Olympic team studies here.
The minister awarded sports journalists for agitating of healthy way of life. Journalist Igor Fedorenko from “Karavan” newspaper and Amangeldy Seitkhan from “Khabar” Agency were awarded for merits in sport.

- If Kazakhstani sports journalism is developed people will know more about sport and the next stage is that sportsmen will develop and win the prizes.

Many sport facilities are constructed before the Asiada-2011. Indoor stadium for 30 000 seats was opened in Astana, skating stadium and cycle track are also constructed in the capital. Mountainous complex “Shymbulak” and skating-rink “Medeo” are reconstructed in Almaty. Developed infrastructure will allow Kazakhstan to apply for welcoming winter Olympiad in future.
