SOCIETY WANTS ACT TO PROTECT RADIOGRAPHERS

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Society of Radiographers
Thursday urged the government to introduce the Allied Health Professional Act to
produce more qualified radiographers.

Its president Mohd Zin Yusof said the proposal to introduce the Act had been
submitted to the Health Ministry 19 years ago but unfortunately it has yet to be
introduced.

"It has been a long period and we had to have numerous discussions but there
has been much delays without any probable reasons," he told reporters after the
17th Radiographers and X-ray Technology Asia-Australasia meeting that was
officiated by Tourism Minister Dr Ng Yen Yen here.

Mohd Zin said the Act was important to safeguard the quality of institutions
offering Diploma or Degree courses in Radiography.

He added that there were 1,500 Radiographers working in government hospitals
throughout the country, but the figure can increase tremendously in the next
three years because many private institutions were offering such courses.
