ISLAMIC ORGANISATION HOPES TO HELP 10,000 THIS FASTING MONTH
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Islamic Relief Malaysia (IRM) targets to
distribute hampers containing essential goods to 10,000 less fortunate Muslims
during the fasting month, said its chairman Zawahir Abdullah.
He said similar programmes would be carried out simultaneously around the
world by Islamic Relief branches in over 50 countries including the United
States, Canada, Kosovo, Bosnia, Italy, France, Nigeria, Yemen and Indonesia.
"Last year Islamic Relief Worldwide managed to distribute food packages
to over a million recipients around the world ... in Malaysia we gave out 7,700
hampers and hope that this year we can give more," he told reporters after the
aid programme's launch at the Malaysian Institute of Islamic Understanding
(IKIM), here Monday.
Zawahir added that IRM volunteers had started distributing the packages
since May 1 and would get IKIM to inform the public about the programme
through the IKIM.fm radio station.
Members of the public who wish to contribute can visit IRM's website at
www.irm.org.my or call 03-89486334.
