UNIFORMED VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST CITY POLICE IN FIGHT AGAINST CRIME
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Forty-three Civil Defence Department
(JPAM) and People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) members started their duties as
volunteer police to assist city police in their fight against crime.
They become the first batch of uniformed volunteers to jointly work with the
police and they would be vested with similar powers of normal policemen, when
carrying out their duties to combat crime.
"The 19 JPAM and 24 Rela members will be stationed at 11 hot spots
identified in the city under the Ops Utama Perdana," City CID Chief Ku
Chin Wah told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters here Monday.
"They will carry out their duties as policemen, except that they will not be
armed," he said.
He added that such volunteers would be added from time to time and work
according to their respective duty roster.
Apart from reinforcement at the 11 hotspots, 90 closed circuit TV (CCTV)
would also be installed at the 11 hotspots to assist the police.
