HEAVY RAIN DISRUPTS INDEPENDENCE DAY STATE DINNER
Jakarta, Aug 17 (ANTARA) - A sudden rainfall lasting for about 30 minutes disrupted the state dinner at the presidential palace to mark the independence anniversary on Monday evening.
On the occasion of independence day anniversary a dinner is always held at the state palace for foreign ambassadors and representatives of international institutions in the country.
The dinner that evening was set up like a garden party with tables and seats for the guests placed in the grass-covered garden.
Because of the heavy rain the guests who at that time happened still to be outdoors, were requested to move indoors. After that they were called one by one to convey their greetings to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and first lady Mrs Ani Yudhoyono.
When the rain had stopped they were told that dinner would proceed again outdoors. As the chairs and tables were wet by the rain, the party turned into a standing party.
Music performers meanwhile were forced to reset their equipment for their shows on the occasion.
