LOOK AT POLITICAL ISSUES FROM THEORETICAL POINT OF VIEW - DPM
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin
Tuesday urged the society to look into political issues from various
perspectives, including from the theoretical point of view.
He said that this would enable them to see things in a more objective way
and avoid getting too emotional.
"I agree with the views that political theories will enlighten us on certain
political events taking place around us.
"Politics is a pragmatic field and having a knowledge of political theories
will help us assess political issues more objectively," he said when launching a
book on leadership by Prof Khairil Annas Jusoh, here Tuesday.
Khairil is Prime Minister Najib Razak's special aide.
The book, "Evolusi Kepimpinan 1 - Tinjauan Teori-Teori Terpilih" (Leadership
Evolition -- A study of selected theories) in a planned four series which
chronicle the country's leadership evolution.
It contains theoretical views on political leadership as well as the
writer's take on the leadership styles of Malaysia's eminent statesmen such as
Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Abdul Razak Hussein, Hussein Onn, Dr Mahathir
Mohamad and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
"I believe that a book on Malay political figures will be suitable for
today's reading, especially in our efforts to build a united nation state.
"These statesmen are eminent Malay political figures, who, through Umno, had
cooperated with non-Malay political figures in the Alliance and then in the
Barisan Nasional (BN) to put in place a political model based on power-sharing
among the races in the country," he said.
This was the political model that managed to create stability and harmony in
the country, Muhyiddin said.
"This is the BN's political model and is carried on by another Malay
political figure, Prime Minister Najib Razak.
"We are now moving a step further in building the nation through the
1Malaysia concept," he said.
Muhyiddin said that the book series would culminate into chapters which
discussed Najib's leadership transformation.
"The book will chronicle Najib's unique style of leadership, which has given
a new sense of hope among Malaysians who want to see the country being led by
someone who has the patience and strength and has the ability to build a united
nation, and take the people from one success to another," he said.
