-TURKISH FOREIGN MINISTER URGES ISRAEL TO ACT MORE RESPONSIBLY
ANKARA (A.A) - 19.08.2009 - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said on Wednesday that Israel should act with more responsibility regarding the developments in the region in the recent period.
Israel should openly display its will for peace if it has it, said Davutoglu who held a joint press conference with Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh in Ankara.
Noting that he had been closely following the efforts of U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell, Davutoglu said that Israel should display its peace will for these efforts to yield results.
"Israel should act more responsibly especially regarding the settlers and the developments in the East Jerusalem. If there is actually a will for peace, it is high time to show it openly."
"Otherwise, developments which may occur in our region will affect all of us very negatively. This is what we are concerned about. We, as Turkey, are looking at the region with a permanent vision basing on principles, not tactics," said Davutoglu.
He noted that Turkey was determined to exert every effort to turn the region into an area of peace, security and prosperity.
