FRIM AND UMP TO HOLD SEMINAR ON BIOMASS

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- The Forest Research Institute Malaysia
(FRIM) and local Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) are organising a seminar on
biomass and value-added products.

Themed "Towards Efficient Utilisation of Biomass", the seminar is scheduled
to be held at a hotel here on Oct 27 and 28, 2009.

The seminar will touch on the availability of biomass, issues affecting
biomass resources and the latest research and development results.

Malaysia is expected to play a major role in the production of biofuel and
other value-added products from the country's 17 million tonnes of oil palm
empty fruit bunches, 4.5 million tonnes of oil palm trunks and 1.35 million
tonnes of rice straws generated each year.
