Animation of 'Winter Sonata' to be aired in Japan in October

TOKYO, Aug. 21 (Yonhap) -- Two Japanese broadcasters plan to air an animated
version of the popular South Korean TV drama "Winter Sonata" in the country, the
companies said Friday.
Entertainment channel DATV and SKY Perfect TV, Japan's largest satellite
television provider, said broadcasts of the animation, based on the South Korean
soap opera that gained global popularity, will begin Oct. 17.
The animated series consists of 26 episodes with a running time of 30 minutes
each, according to the broadcasters.
The production drew keen interest from Japanese fans in May last year when the
stars of the original series met for the first time since its production in 2002
to do voice recordings for the animation.
South Korean actor Bae Yong-joon, who played the lead male role, and actress Choi
Ji-woo, who played the heroine, have gained unprecedented popularity in the
region.
"Winter Sonata," produced by the KBS broadcasting network, depicts the story of a
woman whose lover suffers from amnesia.
