UNITE TO RELIVE PAST GLORY, MALAYSIAN PM TELLS MUSLIMS

PEKAN (Malaysia), Aug 24 (Bernama) -- Muslims can relive the glory of the
Islamic civilisation if they are united and willing to join forces in their
endeavours, said Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.

He said the traits were one of the characteristics and philosophy behind
rise of the Islamic civilisation.

Najib said the Islamic Empire went through the golden age as Muslims in
those days were well-disciplined.

"However, disunity and poor discipline characterised the decline of the
Islamic civilisation," he said when presenting aid before the breaking of fast
at Peramu 3 Mosque here Sunday.

Urging Muslims to be charitable and willing to provide tithes to the poor,
he said "imfak" (being charitable) was one of the pillars of the Islamic
socio-economy that could propel Muslims to greater heights.

Najib, who was accompanied by his wife, Rosmah Mansor, later gave
away cash and food to 144 single mothers, senior citizens and disabled people.

He later performed terawih prayers at Taman LKNP Mosque.
