Results of “Bus” campaign

Almaty, August 24 2009, Khabar - During one week the officials of department of traffic police of Almaty revealed over 2000 violations of traffic rules made by drivers of public transport. This is the result of “Bus” campaign. The drivers of public transport violated the rules of transportation of passengers, ignored rules of passing and maneuvering, drove on the stripe coming from the opposite direction, created road accident situations, drove without registration documents and in intoxicated condition. Three passengers were arrested in condition of alcohol intoxication thought they said they passed medical examination in auto park in the morning before beginning to work. And one driver who was transporting over 20 passengers used drugs before driving and was suffering from thirst when he was stopped by policeman. The seized driver said he also was examined by medical men in the morning. The management of four drivers was drawn to the administrative responsibility.

Arman Sarbassov, head of department of traffic police of Almaty:
- Any citizen of Almaty can phone to telephone of trust 610606, or to any department on duty - 544505 and 544506. Our officials will always react on any telephone call of a passenger and if the driver is drunken or violates the rules, exceeds speed and does anything that threatens health and life of passengers, he will be punished.

The traffic policemen also inspected 19 enterprises that transport passengers and it turned out only 6 auto parks have stations of pre-work control and medical examination. “Bus” campaign is held for the fourth time since the beginning of this year but after this inspection it was decided to inspect such enterprises constantly, day and night.

Arman Sarbassov, head of department of traffic police of Almaty:
- We revealed the facts when drivers of other cities are hired by Almaty auto parks and they don’t have constant place of resident and parking of transport. They often sleep and eat in buses and repair them just on crossroads. The traffic police will be tough to them because transportation of passengers is life and health of citizens of our city.

“Attention: children!” campaign was begun on August 20 in Almaty and it will last till September 4. The drivers are asked to switch on lower beam of headlights while driving in the city. The policemen check up the area nearby 180 schools of the city and necessary signs are settled and renewed near schools. On September 1 they will tell children about traffic rules. Booklets were printed for drivers, pupils and pedestrians and each patrol automobile has an agitation disc with rules of rights behavior on the road. Though the number of road accidents reduced on roads the car is still mean of speed exceeding and department of traffic police of Almaty says they will continue putting the city into order.
