JIM TARGETS 60,000 RECIPIENTS FOR RAMADAN APPEAL PROGRAMME

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- Jamaah Islah Malaysia (JIM) targets to collect RM300,000 (some US$85, 260) in donation from the public to be distributed to 60,000 Muslims in 15 countries through the Ramadan Appeal programme.

The programme, launched Monday, was to give the opportunity to the public to
help poor Muslims in the 15 countries who were being oppressed or facing natural
disasters.

"Last year, through the same program, JIM distributed money to more than
40,000 Muslims in Sudan, Palestine, Mindanao, Southern Thailand, Afghanistan,
Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaysia with the collection of
RM200,000," the programme's deputy director, Wan Mohd Zukri Che Mat Zin, said at
the launch of the programme here, Monday.

"With five more countries added into the list such as Rohingya, Eastern
Turkestan, Bangladesh, Iraq and Pakistan, we hope Malaysians can contribute more
this year for 60,000 recipients this time around," he said.

Those who interested to contribute can do so by giving cash either
individually or through a group donation starting today until Sept 10.

The public can also contribute via JIM's website at www.jim.org.my or the
secretariat at +603-41089669/41053159.
