INDUSTRY PARTICIPATION COULD BOOST COMMERCIALISATION OF R&D

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- Participation from the industry players in
research and development (R&D) carried out by institutions of higher learning
can help spur the commercialisation of the R&D products.

Higher Education Department Director-General Prof Dr Radin Umar Radin
Sohadi said the industry players could see more R&D products developed by the
tertiary institutions through the International Exposition of Reasearch and
Invention of Institutions of Higher Learning 2009 (PECIPTA 2009).

"The R&D should be carried out for the benefit of the society and during the
exposition, a business matching would be done to give researcher the opportunity
to promote their research outcome and products to the related industries," he
said said at a news conference on PECIPTA 2009 here, Tuesday.

He said the exposition would open the door of opportunity for the
researchers to meet potential investors to promote their research findings and
products for commercialisation and distribution.

So far, about 20 representatives from various industries had confirmed their
attendance at the exposition which will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention
Centre from Oct 8 to 10.

Meanwhile, PECIPTA 2009 organising chairman Prof Dr Rosmawati Mohamad said
the exposition this year would introduce a special award for the university
that received the most gold medals in the exposition.

A new category known as Social Sciences and Humanities would also be
included.
