DEPATI PARBO AIRPORT IS NOW OPEN TO AIRCRAFT

Jambi, Aug 25 (ANTARA) - Aircraft can now take off or land at Depati Parbo airport in Kerinci regency, Jambi, as work on the construction of all the needed facilties has been completed.

The head of the airport Sahari Sap flanked by technical coordinator Asril B.Sc said Tuesday although the airport is a fourth class airport, it is now ready to receive planes at any time.
Besides, the facilities and infrastructure of the airport are comparable to a third class airport, and it even has runway lights which are normally built for second class airports.

"The only thing Depati Parbo airport is lacking is a tower, and if it also has this infrastructure, it will be comparable to a third class airport," he said.

While as a matter of fact it is still not clear what airline companies whose planes will be using the airpport, he said everything is ready, and its navigation radio is now even ready 24 hours to receive distress signals from planes wishing to make an emergency landing there if something had done wrong.

Asril even said that in an emergency, Depati Parbo whose runway is 1,800 meters long and 30 meters wide, can accommodate Boeing 737s which have normally more than 100 passengers.

But in normal circumstances, the airport which went into service starting in January 2009, after dedication by Transportation Minister Jusman Syafi'i Djamal, cannot as yet handle Boeing 737s.
