M`SIAN STILL MISSING IN KASHMIR, REMAINS OF THREE TO BE FLOWN TO KL TODAY

BY P.VIJIAN

NEW DELHI, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- Police and villagers in the rugged mountain
terrain of Leh in the Kashmir region are continuing their search for Malaysian
Cheong Swee Chun who went missing after a road accident yesterday, which also
claimed the lives of three other Malaysians.

In the Tuesday morning accident, the four-wheel vehicle they were
travelling in was said to have hit a rock and plunged about 70 metres into the
fast-flowing waters of the Indus River in Leh, located in the Ladakh district.

While the bodies of the three victims were discovered immediately, the body
of Swee Chun, 42, could not be traced due to the strong currents.

"The search is still going on, we are using all equipment available to us
and kayaks, but till now there has been no fruitful results.

"The water is very rough, about 40 to 50 people are involved in the search
operation at different points. If the water level subsides we may get some
clues," Leh police station officer Mehraj Khalid told Bernama in a telephone
interview.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the three dead Malaysian women, Tan Gua Gnoh, 54,
(from Penang), Lee Ah Yem, 59, (of Kelantan) and Ang Ee Lee, 52, (from Kedah)
were flown from Leh Airport, the only airstrip in Ladakh, to the Indira Gandhi
International Airport in Delhi this afternoon.

Ladakh is situated in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir and is about
900
km from Delhi.

But another Malaysian, 47-year-old Lin Bee Wong, who was seriously injured
in the incident could not board the flight this morning due to back injuries.
However, she is in stable condition.

A convoy of nine vehicles, with about 30 people, including Malaysians, was
believed to be heading to a Buddhist monastery to meet the chief monk when the
accident took place.

"The vehicle which the Malaysians were travelling was a new
four-wheel-drive.

"At this point it's hard to say the cause of the accident but we believe it
was the negligence on the part of the driver. He is also injured and not in a
position to say anything," added Mehraj.

The Malaysian High Commission in Delhi is making the necessary arrangements
for the three bodies to be flown back to Kuala Lumpur (KL) Wednesday night.
